Piazza, Gloria

Gloria Piazza, 82, of Payson, died July 29, 2012 in Goodyear, AZ.  She was born June 7, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY.

She and her family moved to Arizona in 1969 and moved to Payson from Phoenix in 1989.

Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother was an excellent cook.  She won the Rim Country St. Patty’s Day cook off.

She is survived by her husband Philip Piazza; daughter, Linda Hichborn and husband George; daughter, JoAnn Piazza; son, Gary J. Piazza and wife Mary Anne; son, Thomas C. Piazza and wife Cheryl; son, Michael P. Piazza; sister, Florence Ann Terranova; her loyal companion, Bianca; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Gloria was preceded in death by her son Philip J. Piazza.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 6, 2012. Visitation from 10am to 11am with service at 11am at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd. in Goodyear, AZ.  Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Diana Parent, 62, of Avondale, AZ died July 27, 2012 at Hospice of the Valley Palm Valley in Goodyear, AZ.  She was born July 19, 1950 in Fargo, ND.  She moved to Arizona January 19, 2001.  She was a homemaker.  She is survived by her husband George Parent, her son John Montalbano, her granddaughter Faith Montalbano and her grandson Derek Montalbano.

Burgess, John

John Burgess, 78, passed away July 23, 2012 in Goodyear, AZ.  He was born February 24, 1934 in Wamego, KS to John and Veda Burgess.  He grew up in rural Kansas, and then as a married man lived in Portland and upstate Oregon.  He served in the United States Army.  He was a university professor for a living and authored a book about their childhood in Kansas with his brother George entitled, “Fresh Feathered Eggs”.  He is survived by his wife Susan, his sons Scott and Phillip, his brother George and so many more loving friends and family members.  There will be multiple celebrations of his life in Oregon and then he will be laid to rest in the family plot in Kansas.

Adams, Gail

Gail Adams was born 6/17/1940 in Salem, OR and passed away on  7/25/2012  in Goodyear, AZ. 
Gail spent her early years in Sweethome and Salem OR.  She moved with her family to Tillamook, OR in 1949.  She attended Maple Leaf Elementary, Liberty Jr High School and Tillamook High School, graduating in 1958.  From June 1958 to March 1959 Gail attended Capitol Business School in Salem, OR on a full scholarship.  Upon completion, moved to Portland OR and worked for Massey-Ferguson Co.  At high school graduation she became engaged to Airman 1st class John Adams who was stationed at Mt. Hebo AFS.  He was transferred to Alaska in 1959.  After a few months in Portland, Gail moved to Fairbanks, AK to be close to John where the Federal Aviation Agency on LADD AFB then hired her.  She and John were married July 22, 1959 in the Chapel of Ladd AFB.  Gail and John enjoyed traveling each summer in their motor home.  Eventually retiring in PebbleCreek in Goodyear AZ June 1996.  She volunteered at Hopes Closet and Kare Bears.  This year they celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary.  Gail is survived by her brother Robert Fitzgerald of OR; husband John Adams; son John Adams, Jr. of CA; daughter Teresa Bingham of CA; grandson Jason Adams of MD; granddaughter Shannon Clark of MD; great grandsons Ian and Nathan Adams of MD.

Martinelli, Sandra

Sandra L. Martinelli, 68, of Avondale, AZ passed away August 3, 2012 in Avondale.  She was born January 28, 1944 in Phoenix, Arizona.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Rene, Lori and Michele Frazier; brother, Richard Martinelli; seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 10:00 am at Hamblen Chapel Evangelical Methodist Church at 1614 S. 111th Ave in Avondale, AZ.

Starr L. Burks, 75, passed away on August 8th, 2012.  Our beloved Starr has gone to join her loved ones that have passed before her.  She was born Starr Beck to Darrell and Stella Beck in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 30th, 1936.  She was a beloved Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her sons Michael and Kenneth Ludlow.  Starr leaves behind her 3 sons, Anthony, Scott, and Keith Ludlow, and her Daughter-in-Law Patricia.  Also her sisters Jo Ann Gongaware, Darlene Starr, Kathleen Fairchild, brother Darrell Beck, and 8 Grandchildren; Sharon, Jeremy, Amber, Billy, Joseph, Keifer, and Michael Ludlow, and Josh Lawson.  She also leaves behind 7 great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be at Thompson Funeral Chapel from 5:30 – 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 14th.  Services will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church on 1001 N. Central in Avondale on Wednesday, August 15th at 9:00am.

Donald Dawson, 72, of Goodyear, passed away August 10, 2012.  He was born on July 26, 1940 in Spokane, Washington to George and Mary Dawson.

Hammes-Brazill, Marlene

Marlene Hammes-Brazill, 59, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on September 7, 2012 in Goodyear, Arizona.  She was born on September 26, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Jack and Mary Hammes.  Marlene is survived by her husband, Rick Brazill and her son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Mandi Brazill.  Funeral services will be held in Wichita, Kansas.  Condolences can be sent to the family at www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com.

Griffin, Gerald Earl

Gerald Griffin, 86, of Buckeye, passed away August 31, 2012 at home.  He was one of eight children born on February 13, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to Mary Agnes Clark and John Francis Griffin.

He proudly served in the Navy during WWII (1944-1946).  He worked in sales and construction and retired from the Austin Co. in 1991.  He is survived by his many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, two children and two grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10am Friday, September 7th at LDS Church located at 1002 E. Eason Ave in Buckeye.  Burial will follow at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Flores Jr., Michael Allen

Michael “Mikey” Allen Flores Jr., 19, of Avondale, passed away August 28, 2012 in Phoenix.  He was born on March 11, 1993 in Phoenix, AZ to Patricia and Michael Allen Flores Sr.

Mikey was a graduate from St. John Vianney Catholic School and Estrella High School.  He is survived by his loving parents, Patricia and Michael Allen Flores Sr., his two sisters, Katrina and Marriah; his grandparents, Susie Martinez; and Joe and Lupe Flores; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Mikey was preceded in death by his tata, David Martinez.

A vigil will be held from 6 to 8 pm Friday, September 7th at St. John Vianney Parish, 800 N. Central in Avondale (Corner of Central and Loma Linda).  Mass will be at 11am Saturday, September 8th at St. John Vianny Parish.  He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the service.
