ACUNA, MARIONO

Acuna, Mariano

Mariano Ferra Acuna was born on May 21, 1926 in Litchfield Park, Arizona. On Tuesday January 24, 2012 Mariano peacefully passed away at the Banner Desert Gardens Hospice facility. Mariano is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edibertha Acuña. He is also survived by his children, Elizabeth, Martin and Jose. Mariano is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grand children.

Mariano lived his entire life in Arizona, starting out in the camps at Goodyear Farms in Litchfield. He later worked at the camps and then served his country in WWII. Upon his return he met his wife Edibertha. They were married on May 20 1954. They soon moved to Mesa, Arizona to begin their family. Mariano took a job working for a construction company. Soon thereafter he was hired to work for the City of Mesa where he retired after 35 years of service.

Mariano’s passing will leave a great void in the lives of people that got to know him, but we are sure that he is with us all still and will continue to watch over the people he loved and cared about.

Services will be held on Friday January 27, 2012 at Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel 926 S. Litchfield Rd. Goodyear, Az. 85358 with a viewing from 10AM- 12PM, rosary from Noon until 1PM and the burial immediately following at the Goodyear Farms Historical Cemetery.

CORDOVA, LOUISE

Cordova, Louise

Louise Ann Cordova of Goodyear, Arizona passed away on Sunday January 15, 2012. She died suddenly after a heart attack.  She was active and healthy to the end and had been dancing in Mesa, Arizona when she became ill. Louise was 77 years of age. She had been married since 1955 to Orlando Cordova and the day of her passing was their 57th wedding anniversary. She grew up in Ogden, Utah where she graduated from Ben Lomond high school. She was a military spouse and lived in New Mexico, California, and Oregon before living for seven years in Avondale, Arizona. After spending two years in the Philippines, Louise and Orlando lived and worked in Mountain Home, Idaho for 26 years. They returned to Arizona in July of 1996.  She was an arts and crafts enthusiast enjoying quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She was an avid walker and also was active in yoga and her mahjong group. She volunteered time and effort at her local Catholic church where she was a faithful parishioner. She was an accomplished homemaker and was well known for the meals she lovingly prepared. Always upbeat and positive, she was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Orlando, her son Michael Cordova (married to Pat Quinn) of Tempe, AZ, her son Robert Cordova of McFarland, WI (married to Kari), and her daughter Cindy Kultala (married to Paul) of Chandler, AZ. Also surviving are her sister Sophia Sandoval of Long Beach, CA and her grandchildren Kyra Cordova, David Kultala, Chris Cordova, and Rachel Kultala who all live in the greater Phoenix area; and her loving aunt Stella Maestas and her husband Fred and their daughter Anna Benedict all of Lake Elsinore, CA.

The wake for Louise takes place Thursday January 19th from 7 to 9:00pm at Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ.  Mass for Louise will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 539 La Pasada Blvd., Goodyear, AZ at 10:00am Friday, January 20th.

Dawson, Deborah

Debbie Dawson, age 59, of Goodyear passed away November 9, 2011 in Goodyear, AZ. Debbie was born November 25, 1952 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Ralph and Agnes (Caravetta) Bregg.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Carlton Dawson; daughters, Kristin Ann Long, Kirstin Pryzgoda, Corinne Swanson; mother, Agnes Bregg; sister, Barbara Khatchadurian; brother Ralph Bregg. Debbie is also survived by ten grandchildren.

There is a funeral service planned Saturday, January 7 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ. The funeral service is planned to start at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at 12:00 p.m at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 23015 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.

BROWNING, EDELTRAUD

Edeltraud “Trudy” Browning

72, of Goodyear, AZ passed away at home January 11, 2012. Trudy was born in Stuttgart, Germany to Adolf and Maria Schafer on January 4, 1940.  Trudy was a store manager of Wellan’s Clothing in Alexandria, Louisiana before moving to Arizona in 2001. Trudy enjoyed volunteering her time at the Deer Valley Community Center.

Trudy is survived by her husband, Darrel D. Browning; four daughters, Audrey, Sheila, Jennifer, and Vicky; four sons, Joey, Michael, David, and Antoine “Tony”. Trudy is also survived by her brother Kurt; 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Trudy is preceded in death by her two sisters, Hannelore, Anita and two grandchildren.

Visitation is Saturday January 14, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will start at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of the Valley.

Elsinger, Jacob and Blaise

Twin boys Jacob and Blaise Elsinger were born and passed January 26, 2012 in Goodyear, AZ.  They are survived by their adoring parents Jennifer and Jeremiah Elsinger; their sisters Nicole and Catherine; their maternal grandparents Elizabeth and Dwayne Macek, Steve and Gina Giannakas;  maternal great-grandparents Loukia Giannakas and Sheila and Henry Caron; their paternal grandparents Pam and James Elsinger;  paternal great-grandparents Carol and Cyril Elsinger, and Doris Feeney; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Mass for the children will take place Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 10:00am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 539 E. La Pasada Blvd., Goodyear, AZ. They will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale.

Fields, Edward David

Edward D. Fields, 70, of Litchfield Park and formerly of New York, passed away at home on January 13, 2012.  He was born July 4, 1941 in New York, New York, to Carmen and Edward Fields.  He grew up in the Bronx, attending Aviation High School and then Queens College.  He was a business entrepreneur for several years after college before going into City Government, where he excelled in accounting and was promoted to Director of Warehousing for Human Resource Administration in New York City.  He married Erica Elizabeth on July 8, 1991.  He loved movies and sports.

Edward is survived by his wife Erica, his son Edward Douglas Fields, his daughters Danielle Dutsch and Janeen Gaskins, and 3 grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Fields takes place on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 10:00am at Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ.  The service will follow at 11:00am.

Freeman, Nicolas “Nick”

Nicolas “Nick” Freeman, 36 of Goodyear, Arizona, passed away of a life long heart problem on January 12, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona. Nick was born January 7, 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona to Thomas and Jesusita Freeman.

Nick was a brick layer in the masonry field before his heart condition slowed him down considerably.  He was a jack of all trades, cutting hair, working as a handyman, fixing bathrooms, water heaters, changing oil, you name it.  He loved his grandma and helped redo her bathroom before his death.  He was a proud father and loved his children and family immensely.

Nick is survived by his life partner, Michelle Galindo; three daughters, Isabel, Lecia, and Adriana; one son, Nick Jr.; his mother whom he adored, Jesusita Garcia; his father Thomas Freeman. Nick is also survived by four brothers, Gus, Danny, Joey, and Tommy; his Grandmother, Nicolasa Salazar; two nieces, Asia, and Danielle; and one nephew, Danny Jr.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday January 21, from 10:00 to 12:00 pm at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 West Thomas Rd. Avondale, Arizona.

GLENZ, STEVE

Glenz, Steve

Steve Glenz, 59, of Goodyear, AZ passed away January 29, 2012 at home.  He was born May 24, 1952 in Rochester, NY to Edward and Mary Glenz.  He attended East high School in Rochester, NY and then joined the Army Reserves in 1971.  He was called to active duty in 1972, attaining the rank of Sergeant, First Class, United States Army.  He then went to work in civil service, retiring as a supervisor of staff administration for the Federal Government.

Steve is survived by his wife, Xiu Cui Glenz; step-son, Kevin; mother, Mary Glenz; brother, Art Glenz, and 2 nieces Susan and Melissa Glenz.

HOLLY CROPPED

Holly, Dallas

The Holly Family announces with great sadness the passing of Dallas Albert Holly on Friday, December 30, 2011.  Dallas was born in Gilbert, Arizona on October 9, 1926 to Oscar Lee and Mary Katherine Holly.

In his early years, Dallas dairied with his parents, then served in the US Navy in WWII.  After the war, he purchased a farm in Liberty, Arizona and there he farmed for many years.

Dallas served on many boards:  Liberty School Board, Buckeye Irrigation Board, and the US Government-ASCS Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elise, survived by his sons Detmar and Fritz, 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A memorial Service is to be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00am at The Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N. Old Litchfield Park, Arizona 85340.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to:  Hospice of the Valley, Team RCTW, Attn:  Sarah Ellis, 9435 W. Peoria Avenue, Peoria, Arizona, 85345.

Mesa, Veronica

Veronica Soto Mesa, 58, of Tonopah passed away January 3, 2012 at home.  She was born February 15, 1953.  She was a teacher’s Aid for Gilroy Unified School District and attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Goodyear.  She moved to Arizona in 2009.

She is survived by her husband Richard Joe Mesa, her daughters Venus Palacios (Christopher) and Veronica Kozlowski (Scott),her sisters Bertha, Rosa, Cecilia, Margie, and Angelina, her brothers Beto, Guillermo, Junior, Salvador, and Jesus, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Veronica is Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 5:00pm at Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ.  The rosary begins at 6:00pm.

 

 

She was preceded in death by her son Richard Joe Mesa Jr.
